Operation of the V-belt
The V-belt, also called V-belt or drive belt, ensures that the alternator and the water pump are driven. The V-belt runs over at least two pulleys with a V-shape.

When does the V-belt need to be replaced? When you hear a skidding or squeaking sound coming from the V-belt, it usually means that the V-belt is too slack. By increasing the tension of the V-belt, it usually stops slipping and squeaking. Replace the belt if it has small cracks or is worn on the side and / or inside. A slipping V-belt ensures that the battery receives a lower charging current and that the cooling of the motor decreases. Do not wait too long with the replacement if the V-belt is defective or until it breaks. In older engines it often happens that the pulley on the crankshaft of the engine over which the V-belt runs, is worn. A new V-belt will continue to make a squeaking or dragging sound. In this case, replace the pulley to solve the problem.
Replacing the V-belt
Replacing the V-belt is not as difficult as you might think, it is a matter of tensioning the old V-belt and installing the new V-belt. Make sure the V-belt is properly tensioned. As a rule, the string may have an amplitude of 1 cm when you exert a few kilos of pressure on the string with your thumb. Check the tension of the V-belt over time.
