Operation of the fuel filter
The name says it all, the fuel filter filters the fuel. Because it is possible that contaminants (sand, dust and corrosion) end up in the fuel. A high-quality fuel filter counteracts this and keeps the fuel clean, while cleaner fuel reduces engine wear. That is why a high-quality filter guarantees a longer life for your Volvo Penta engine.

Replacing the fuel filter
Just like with the oil filter and the air filter, replacing the fuel filter is not a big job. In most cases it concerns a screw filter, the old filter can just be removed. It is smart to also clean the surface where the old filter used to be. After that, it is just a matter of screwing on the new filter. There is no real interval for replacing the filter, but it is important that this is done regularly, otherwise the fuel filter may become clogged and therefore may no longer function properly. It is also advisable to replace the filter annually due to moisture build-up in the fuel filter. The engine will then perform less, think of: hold back and sputter. So these are signs that the fuel filter is defective. So for optimal engine performance, a good fuel filter is essential.
